Fall 2022
This project was a collaboration with my Community-Focused Design Studio class, with the class dividing up into smaller teams to tackle different aspects of the project. Our client was The Art Room, a business in Denton, TX that promotes "the creative process has therapeutic value in reducing stress, in promoting self-discovery, and in providing a positive means for emotional expression" (excerpt taken from their website). Our client wanted us to design posters that could be displayed in their new art space, as well as promotional flyers and volunteer info. My team was focused on creating posters; after our initial client meeting, we decided to create a series of five posters that provided mental health tips or art/design tips. Since our team was on the larger side, we further broke up into groups of two to tackle one poster each. With my partner Emerald Wilson, we chose to design our poster about coping with stress. Emerald did the research on healthy coping mechanisms, and I took this info to make a simplistic poster that provided the information in a quick, easy-to-digest manner. The idea of "five things so simple, you could count them on one hand" influenced the main subject of this poster, and organic shapes along with a pastel color palette help enhance the feeling of calm.
